High Above Reno

I took a walk yesterday up Mt. Rose, at 10,800′ the tallest peak in the local area. It’s not as gnarly as it sounds, since the trailhead is at 8,800′ and a super well-maintained trail heads all the way up there. It’s very popular on weekends, and this warm day with light breezes was no exception. Fall color was beginning to tinge the high meadows and alpine areas, and the views from the top were spectacular. On a really clear day, Mt. Shasta is even visible way to the north.

Looking northeast toward Reno.
Looking northwest toward Truckee. Donner Lake is visible in upper left-hand corner. Mt. Lassen can be seen in the far distance, upper right-hand corner.
